A Certified Public Accountant and a proud parent himself, there's not a more qualified candidate than Paul Harrell to serve on the District's Board of Education.
His experience includes 33 years in public school education — 17 of those years with the NKC School District as the Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Operations.
During this time, Paul provided strong financial leadership in challenging economic times and effectively balanced the budget allowing for:

Funding of numerous instructional programs providing all students the opportunity to succeed.
• District's ratings from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education are at all time highs.
• 3 National Blue Ribbon Schools – schools within the top 1 percent of all public and private schools in the United States.
• Graduation rates are at all-time highs.
• Enrollment has increased to nearly 21,000 students.
• Enrollment in Advanced Placement courses has increased.
• Middle School curriculum has been re-designed
• High Schools are focused on being college and career ready
✔ High-Quality Staff
Ensured competitive salary schedules while supervising the hiring of qualified teachers and support staff.
✔ New and Improved Facilities
Secured funding to open and renovate numerous school buildings with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and energy-efficient design. Including;
• North Kansas City High School Renovation
• Rising Hill Elementary
• New Northview Elementary
• 6th Grade Centers at Gateway and Eastgate
• Re-building Davidson and Maplewood Elementary
• Major renovations for Briarcliff and Chapel Hill Elementary
• New Stadiums at Winnetonka and Oak Park High Schools
• Additional classrooms at Staley High School
• New Early Childhood Center at the former Hobby Lobby store.
✔ Technology Upgrades
Increased student access to internet services and additional devices for virtual education options.
✔ Energy-Efficient Transportation
Oversaw implementation of the nation's largest Compressed Natural Gas fleet conversion — replacing aging diesel school buses with new "green" buses, thus improving miles per gallon and reducing operating costs.
COMMITTED TO SERVING THE NKC COMMUNITY
A strong proponent of community engagement, Paul's leadership contributions have also included:
✔ Serving as treasurer for the North Kansas City Schools Foundation, successfully securing funding for students with Teacher Grants.
✔ Developing a Strategic Plan to guide the NKC School District's work in the coming years.
✔ Serving as board member and treasurer of the North Kansas City Business Council Board.
